Elizabeth Metcalf began her professional path studying medicine at the University of Washington. Health issues in her younger years shifted her course, but rather than give up on her desire to help others, she found a new way forward. She picked up skills in tile work, drywall, millwork, painting, and more, discovering a natural talent and passion for hands-on work. Construction became her outlet, her purpose, and eventually her career.
That passion had roots in her family history. Her great-grandfather was a general contractor who helped build many of the original homes in Dallas and Oak Cliff. He took such pride in his work that he even bought one of the homes he built himself. Elizabeth now operates in the same region, continuing that legacy with a business focused on craftsmanship, care, and community ties that run deep.
"We have had so many clients that we have come to treasure as friends."
A Neighborhood Company That Shows Up
For Elizabeth, her business is more than just remodeling homes. It is about showing up for people in her neighborhood. Over time, many clients have become close friends. There is one client in particular whose story changed everything. A retired teacher who had taught generations of children in the area was diagnosed with brain cancer. Elizabeth’s team had done work on her home, but as her health declined, it became clear she needed more than a contractor.
What started as small projects turned into weekly breakfasts and routine check-ins. Her team took out the garbage, delivered essentials, and stayed connected through her most difficult days. That one relationship inspired a volunteer program within Metcalf-Scott that now supports several neighbors quietly and consistently. Elizabeth never expected how much joy could come from doing the little things that help others feel seen and supported.
A Deep Commitment to Local People and Local Stores
Metcalf-Scott only hires local team members who are thoroughly vetted. Elizabeth believes that who you bring onto your crew matters just as much as the work itself. By supporting smaller, locally owned supply stores, they are able to source better-quality materials at better prices. The goal is not just to build well, but to support the local economy at every step.
Community involvement is a central part of their identity. In addition to their private volunteer work, the company partners with churches to help feed those in need and support the homeless. Elizabeth and her family also give back in unique ways. Her son volunteers with his 4-H animals, visiting retirement homes and special events with pigs and goats in tow. They also help judge local chicken shows and spend time where they are needed most. Their work may start with homes, but it certainly does not end there.

Putting People Before Profit
Elizabeth is proud to say her company values people over numbers. While larger firms may brag about a long client list, Metcalf-Scott celebrates the depth of the relationships they build. They may not serve as many customers as some competitors, but the bonds they have formed run deeper than any contract. Clients become friends, and that kind of trust cannot be bought or rushed.
They are currently focusing on growing their online presence so that reviews and digital platforms reflect the same reputation they have earned in the field. Elizabeth is motivated not by marketing alone, but by the hope that her example can help raise the bar across the community. When one business does better, everyone benefits. That philosophy keeps her team grounded and their priorities in the right place.
Understanding the Homes and the History
Years of experience in the DFW area have given Elizabeth and her team a strong understanding of the homes they work on. They know the styles, the materials, and even the warning signs that come with certain areas of construction. One example is a specific electrical panel used during a particular time that poses serious risks. Because of their local knowledge, they are able to identify and address these problems quickly and safely.
Their success also depends on knowing the right people for the job. Over time, Elizabeth has built strong relationships with highly skilled tradespeople who can step in when a project requires something truly specialized. She firmly believes that even the best business owner cannot succeed without a solid, reliable crew. That teamwork is what keeps Metcalf-Scott consistent, capable, and trusted in the community.

Leading With Gratitude and Purpose
As a commercial general contractor, Elizabeth is proud of the scale and impact of the work her company does. But more than anything, she is grateful. Grateful for the people they work with, the neighbors who trust them, and the opportunity to make a real difference through honest work. Her success is not defined by growth for the sake of growth. It is defined by connection, reliability, and heart.
She reminds others starting a business to learn what makes their area special and to build from there. Knowing the history of the homes, understanding the local culture, and having a good team can make all the difference. Metcalf-Scott is a company built on family values, rooted in experience, and driven by kindness. In every project and every interaction, they prove that good work and good people still go hand in hand.
